I wrote an article this week for work about the importance of licensed child care. Because of the Day Nurseries Act, child care regulations are way out of date.
Firstly, too many tragedies are occurring in unlicensed day cares and there are not enough licensed day cares. Secondly, the places that are licensed cost at least $12,000 per year, which is much too expensive. Because of this, parents are forced to leave their jobs to take care of their children at home. Lastly, the lack of access to quality child care means day care centres are forced to lay off their RECE professionals. It is time for change.
As I said in the article, access to safe, quality child care is not a privilege, it is a right.

- DO NOT SPEAK TO ME IN A CONDESCENDING WAY
- DO NOT SPEAK TO ME LIKE I’M AN IDIOT
- DO NOT SPEAK TO ME AS IF I’M STUPID BECAUSE I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT SOMETHING THAT YOU KNEW ABOUT OR BECAUSE I DIDN’T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING THAT’S SIMPLE FOR OTHER PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND
- JUST DON’T DO IT
I don’t really come on my Tumblr anymore but I just need a place to rant where my parents have no chance of seeing it.
Today I took my G1 (test to get my learner’s permit) about seven years after turning 16 and failed. A basic fucking test. My dad said nothing on the car ride to work and when I got there my boss and co-workers all told me it happens all the time and I’ll do much better next time. I went on with my day not thinking about it until I got home and was reduced to tears by my parents because I got “worse than the worst possible passing mark.” My dad told me he thinks I put no effort into it (which I did, even though I had no interest and reading that shitty book is like pulling teeth). I didn’t even want to get my FUCKING driver’s licence in the first fucking place.
Going to Dublin. And Berlin. Hostels, flights booked. Just gotta book the train to Berlin. And my flights to Frankfurt. We are IN BUSINESS.
