Hello, it’s been a while.
In a few weeks’ time, this will be come a travel blog of sorts for a month. I will be travelling to Frankfurt, Dublin, Berlin with my cousin and, finally, Iceland by myself from August 23 to September 18. Expect pictures and stories.
I wrote an article this week for work about the importance of licensed child care. Because of the Day Nurseries Act, child care regulations are way out of date.
Firstly, too many tragedies are occurring in unlicensed day cares and there are not enough licensed day cares. Secondly, the places that are licensed cost at least $12,000 per year, which is much too expensive. Because of this, parents are forced to leave their jobs to take care of their children at home. Lastly, the lack of access to quality child care means day care centres are forced to lay off their RECE professionals. It is time for change.
As I said in the article, access to safe, quality child care is not a privilege, it is a right.
